Santa Ana, CA (December 27, 2022) On Tuesday, December 27, 2022, Doug Chaffee, Chairman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors and Fourth District Supervisor, was sworn into office by U.S. District Court Judge David O. Carter for his second term during a private ceremony in Judge Carter's courtroom at the Ronald Reagan Federal Building.

“I am incredibly honored and humbled to continue to serve as the Fourth District Supervisor, representing the Cities of Brea, Buena Park, Fullerton, La Habra, Placentia, Stanton, portions of Anaheim, and unincorporated communities,” said Chairman Chaffee. “In these next four years, I will continue to focus on improving the quality of life for our residents, businesses, and members of our most vulnerable communities.”

Since joining the Board on January 7, 2019, Chairman Chaffee has addressed homelessness by supporting the creation of the Buena Park and Placentia Navigation Centers, the Placentia Veterans Village, the Orange County Housing Finance Trust, and the Hope Center in Fullerton.

The County developed a System of Care that resulted from two lawsuits related to homelessness, Orange County Catholic Worker, et. al v. County of Orange and David Ramirez, et. al v. County of Orange, over which Judge Carter presided.

For weeks during the court proceedings, Judge Carter visited with individuals experiencing homelessness in the Santa Ana River Trail and Santa Ana Civic Center.

“Judge Carter displayed compassion for our residents in need and humanized the issue of homelessness,” said Chairman Chaffee. “His hands-on approach and ability to bring all stakeholders together allowed us to emphasis engagement and services in a coordinated care model, while also protecting public health and safety.”

In addition to addressing homelessness, Chairman Chaffee led the County during the COVID-19 pandemic, serving as Vice Chairman in 2021 and Chairman in 2022. At the height of the pandemic, he also spurred economic development by reinvesting $14.5 million into small businesses in the Fourth District.

Prior to his election, Chairman Chaffee twice served as Mayor of the City of Fullerton. While serving on the City Council, he made addressing homelessness, open space, and affordable housing his priorities.

Chairman Chaffee is a longtime Fullerton resident, graduating from Fullerton Union High School. He earned a B.A. in Economics from the University of Redlands and a Juris Doctorate from the Northwestern University School of Law. He is married to his wife, Paulette, who serves as Ambassador of the Orange County Fourth District. They have two sons and two grandsons.

Sincerely,
Doug Chaffee
